In the Name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful
Assalamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullah
South Florida has been hit by a new wave and it’s called “STAR”. This program is FAYM’s educational initiative for 2010. STAR stands for “Spirituality”, “Training”, “Activism” and “Relationships” and it is what we envision as the key characteristics of the successful Muslim youth.
This program is focused on holistic education and the philosophy behind it is that Islam is a way of life, and what better way to incorporate teaching all aspects of this life than by educating and training the youth in our Masaajid? STAR focuses not only on Islamic education but also training in important life skills. FAYM has spent the time developing the program, under the guidance of our mentor, Br. Naseeb Khan, a well known Islamic worker in South Florida. We have created a curriculum that is based on enduring understandings that the youth can use and transfer into real- life situations. We have trained our conductors, an excellent group of dedicated Islamic workers whose main concern is the spreading of the Deen as exhorted by our Prophet Muhammad (SAW). And Alhamdulillah, we’ve had great success in Phase 1 of our program, over 100 youth registered.
And STAR has just begun! In moving forward, I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to all the committed conductors, supportive parents and community members and last but not least, our students! You have all helped in making this program a success and we look forward to many more years of working together to benefit our South Florida community.
Jazak Allah Khair
